Getting Pidgin configured to connect to SameTime

I was receiving various errors trying to connect Pidgin to our Sametime server (version mismatch, connection terminated, not authorized). After trying various settings, this seemed to work best to resolve the problem with Sametime version 8.5.2. Edit C:\Users\[username]\AppData\Roaming\.purple\accounts.xml and add/change the following settings for the Sametime account settings:

<setting name=’fake_client_id’ type=’bool’>1</setting>
<setting name=’server’ type=’string’>[SERVERNAME]</setting>

<setting name=’client_id_val’ type=’int’>4668</setting>
</settings>

You can try to tweak this by referring to http://[SERVERNAME]/Sametime/buildinfo.txt to find the exact Sametime version and refer to this chart (https://www-304.ibm.com/support/docview.wss?uid=swg21114318) to find the client_id_val that may work. This hexidecimal value can be converted to decimal by just typing “convert [hexidecimal]” Google.
